The important plant and berry collections of the Pavlovsk Experimental Station are in fear of being lost to a housing construction development fund by the Russian State Property.
The destruction and loss of this important collection moved a step closer with the court decision in favour of the construction housing development fund. The N.I. Vavilov Research Institute of Plant Industry (VIR) stated that it will lodge an appeal with the Supreme Arbitration Court. Pavlosk has been the home to important and rare fruits and berry collections since 1926, when it was established by the scientist Nikolai Vavilov. It is considered one of the major stations of VIR and it has over 3000 accessions of fruit and berry plants maintained in vivo in its gardens.
Bioversity International and The Global Crop Diversity Trust have been actively involved and working alongside VIR in trying to save these important collections of fruit biodiversity.
